It really is a perfect balance of humor and horror, and as you noted Bill it doesn't feel the need to stoop to the lowest common denominator. I'm a total 80's girl and I thought it was a great film considering the time it was made in. I'm surprised I had not seen earlier. I think the dead friend with the sarcasm made the movie more watchable. I always wondered if they had stayed on the road instead of wandering onto the moor would they have really stayed safe and not be attacked. My husband recently introduced me to this movie.
