Over at Black Gate I just posted about the trailer for the upcoming remake of the 1981 Clash of the Titans, due out some time in the Spring of next year. The original Clash was a Harryhausen tour de force, a film still very watchable today.
Since I can’t embed video at the BG site, I’m linking back here, for a change.
I’m not a big fan of remakes — OK, I loath the idea — but if the film turns out to be enjoyable I’ll happily add it to the ‘exception to the rule’ list when it comes to brain-dead Hollywood remakes. I’m generally pretty good about not letting nostalgia sour me too much on these things — after all, they generally find a way of failing despite any personal grudge I may hold — but, judging from the trailer, it doesn’t look half-bad.

I generally can’t stand the idea of remakes either but I do admit quite a guilty pleasure in this one.
And if you are referring to the begining of the trailer thats not Perseus staring into Medusa’s face. Perseus is the close-cropped hair guy.
Oh yea — I can see that now. All those fast cuts and everybody sort of looked the same.
I loved the original, and I’m not opposed to remakes as long as they don’t crap all over what came first. The music throws me. I’m not a fan of rock music in a fantasy, so I hope this is just for the trailer. Kull bombed musically (Kevin Sorbo didn’t help), and would have been somewhat better with a classical score.
I hope they invest even a little time in storytelling and not leave it all to special effects and clashing blades (although I look forward to that being done well).
