I think it would be a good introduction to Heinlein, as you say. And the Farley File is a great idea -- for those that don't know it's a file that keeps track of the personal and professional details of acquaintances, so a person (most likely a public figure like a politician) can have those details at their fingertips and give the personal touch to a conversation with people they may only see once every few years.

The Door Into Summer is one I haven't read, but I'm always hearing good things about it. I'm sure I'll track it down one day.

Double Star os one of my favorite Heinlein books; it's on my shelves right now and I expect I've read it a dozen times since the first time in 1963. It is all the things you say, an enormously fun read that I recommend to younger SF fans who have never read RAH. At a personal level, the story introduced me to the idea of the Farley File, which I used in my professional activities for years.

My other favorite from the same time period is the time travel story, The Door Into Summer. I'd love to hear what you have to say about it sometime.
