Oh yea, the D&D movie was a whole different level of bad.

We'll see if big money and a big market won't make a difference in the case of WoW.

I enjoy playing WoW but am definitely leery of a movie based on it...once bitten and twice shy.

WoW does have a pretty rich story with a depth of history to it which could give Raimi or a some other decent screenwriter a lot of elements to draw from for a good story. I don't know a lot of that history because, frankly, I just like completing questions, killing baddies and taking their stuff. But it could be done. And I like Raimi and would be curious as to where he's going to take it.

The problem is all of the other elements Bill mentions in his blog. Hollywood just doesn't often get it right with these things. I'd have thought Wizards of the Coast would have had enough respect for their product to not let the travesty that was the D&D movie be made...but, alas, EPIC FAILure. ;>)

I hope you're right, and it very well could be we'll see something different now that we have a truly big budget undertaking rather than the little Uwe Boll b-movies that seem more typical of video game adaptions. I don't change my opinion on the worthiness of the source material, though, though I also will admit I'm not intimately acquainted with it. I still think the lack of an agreed-upon shared narrative or characters will weaken it's appeal to fans and non-fans alike.

Such a massive potential market really is a game-changer though, and Raimi is a good director . . . but I still hate green orcs.

I agree as to the general statement about video game spinoff flicks, but I can't help but shake the feeling that a WoW movie will not suffer from the same defects.

If 50% of the people who have played the game/read the books go to the movies, thats about 15 million people. From the get go that gives you a larger budget and a better team to play with. Also, I feel that you underestimate Blizzard's professionalism with respect to the WoW franchise. They won't allow a poor movie to be shown and have the dinero to back that up.

Thanks for taking a stand against the grammatical failures of today's youth; although my prediction is that they will still fail to comprehend the lesson.
